PastorLife began as a website designed for Baptist ministers in 2001. The original name of the site was SermonCity. The genesis of the site began when Dr. J. Mike Minnix, a Southern Baptist Pastor for more than 30 years, discussed his idea for a website specifically designed for Baptist ministers with Dr. J. Robert White, Executive Director of the Georgia Baptist Convention. Dr. White felt the idea had merit and asked Dr. Minnix to develop and serve as Editor for the site with the support of the Georgia Baptist Convention. The goal of the site was and is to provide sermon helps, illustrations, articles and other information that conform to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000 of the Southern Baptist Convention.
The site originally began as a subscription service, but Dr. White later decided the need of pastors for helpful preaching and ministry materials was so great that he suggested removing the subscription and allowing ordained ministers free access to the material. This decision took effect in 2005.
Dr. Minnix served as editor of the site, along with a small staff, until his retirement in 2010. The ministry is now under the Leadership Ministries office of the Georgia Baptist Convention, led by Dr. Benny Page. |
