What a Difference an Author Makes!

Several years ago, I acquired a book. Just how it came into my possession, I'm not sure. The cover was not particularly attractive; neither was the title. The author was totally unknown to me. Thus, I laid it aside with the thought that maybe...someday...if I find time... I might read some of it.

Time passed and I found myself journeying into Mexico. It was our first mission trip. My wife and I had been invited to work with some missionaries near Guadalajara. We conducted some pre-arranged meetings, and our host graciously drove us to all the meetings and interpreted my nightly sermons.

We journeyed further toward the coast and conducted more meetings. We ran on the beaches and swam in the ocean. We prayed. We preached. We witnessed. And we rejoiced over the souls that were saved.

Then, I made an astounding discovery! The missionary -the one who was our host... the one who had arranged the meetings and interpreted for me nightly- that same missionary, I discovered, was the author of that dull-looking book I had mysteriously acquired.

Suddenly, I found myself thrown into reading, thoroughly engulfed and intrigued with that formerly dull book. Strangely, the cover seemed to have come to life with the message on its pages. Even the title seemed to ring in my soul. What caused the change? I had met the author! And the purity and zeal and dedication of his life had driven me to his book.

Does the Bible ever seem dull to you? Do those long, Old Testament passages seem uninviting?
Do you stumble over Biblical terms and just feel more like putting the whole thing down? Maybe -just maybe-you need to meet the Author. For if what I encountered in the life of one author could prompt and increase my interest in his life and book, meeting THE AUTHOR of the Holy Scriptures will surely affect a change in you.
