Joel Southerland

Joel currently serves as the Executive Director of Evangelism Strategies with the North American Mission Board. He has previously served as a Church Consultant in the Evangelism Department of the Georgia Baptist Convention. Joel has been the pastor of 2 growing churches. At his last church, Liberty BC, it experienced great growth – even to the point of having to relocate. The church is in the process of doing that now. Liberty was recognized as 1 of only 5 churches to grow 2% for 10 consecutive years. It was in the top 25 fastest growing churches for one three year period. During his last year there they had a baptism rate of 1:11. That is, one baptism for every 11 members. The national average is 1:43! He is married to his beautiful childhood sweetheart, Sherry, and they have 2 girls. Joel has a Masters in Leadership at Liberty University. In 2010 Joel was the Chairman of the Committee on Committees for the Southern Baptist Convention. He has served on the Administrative and the Executive Committee of the Georgia Baptist Convention.
