Reading Obituaries With Pleasure

I Didn't Kill Him, But I'm Glad He Is Dead!

"I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." Clarence Darrow

Darrow’s statement can be viewed as very funny, but actually there is a danger in thinking this way. Though most of us will not kill anyone, we will wish them dead. Jesus said that such attitudes are sinful, and why not, since actions begin with thoughts (Matthew 5:21-22). Anger or hatred can lead to murder.

Mark Twain said, "I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it." Humorous, but dangerous!

To keep our hearts right, we must keep our thoughts under control. Paul noted that we must take every thought captive through obedience to the Lord (2 Corinthians 10:5).

Let’s determine to think right (Philippians 4:8) and then we will come much closer to living right.
