Knowing God's Will For The New Year

Bible Book: Romans  12 : 1-2
Subject: God's Will; Will of God
Introduction

Adrian Rogers said, "We are living in an age of guided missiles and misguided men."There are six principles that frame our understanding of God’s will.

(1. God has a plan for our lives, Eph. 5:17.

(2. You can know that plan, Rom. 12:1-2.

(3. That plan is good, acceptable, and perfect, Rom. 12:1-2.

(4. You can know God’s will and not do it, Is. 53:6.

(5. God will not override your will, Rom. 7:15.

(6. We must decide to do God’s will, Josh. 24:15.

I. God Reveals His Will Personally

Note Jeremiah 29:11; Isaiah 49:1; and, Psalm 32:8.

The key is "intimacy", as noted in Philippians 3:8-14.

II. God Reveals His Will Partially

Matthew 6:34.

Today is all we have, all we need, all we can handle. The key is "patient steadfastness."

III. God Reveals His Will Progressively

Romans 1:17.

We move from the ABC’s of the faith to the more complex. The key is "growth/maturity."

IV. God Reveals His Will Persistently

Look at Matthew 7:7, "Ask...seek..knock".

The key is "urgency."

We are not "hungry" or "desperate".

V. God Reveals His Will Positively and Practically

Read Psalm 119:105.

A. Examine the Word

Psalm 119:105.

God never leads contrary to His Word.

B. Exalt the Holy Spirit

Read Romans 8:14, and Ephesians 5:18.

C. Enlist Godly Advisors

Read Proverbs 11:14, 12:15, 27:17.

D. Evaluate Your Options

Note Luke 14:28-32.

E. Entreat The Lord

James 1:5.

F. Expect The Confirmation Of God’s Peace

Check out Proverbs 3:5-6, and Isaiah 26:3.

G. Energize Your Understanding Of God’s Will (Do it)

Proverbs 16:3.

Conclusion

God is more interested in our commitment than our comprehension. Our doing is more important than our discernment. Our actions are more important than our analyzation. Junior Hill says, "When you don’t know what to do, do what you know to do." All of us know more of God’s will than we are doing. If man can correct a misguided missile from Houston, God can correct a misguided life from Heaven. "Cause me to know the way wherein I should walk...and teach me thy will," Psalm 143:8, 10. May this be our prayer.
