Then Jesus spoke to them again: "I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life."

A. Vision (we need light to see)

II. Source of the Light

A. Jesus the "I Am" ("I am")

B. Jesus the Light ("the light")

C. Jesus the Example ("follow me")

D. Jesus the Only Way ("shall not walk in darkness")

E. Jesus the Life ("shall have the light of life")

III. Effect of the Light

A. Not enough just to know about the Light (awareness of His Lordship)

B. Not enough just to believe in the Light intellectually (assent to His Lordship)

C. Not enough just to be exposed to the Light from time to time (activities surrounding His Lordship)

D. We must live in the Light (abandonment to His Lordship)

E. We must share the Light (advertise His Lordship)

We read in I John 1:6-7:

If we say, "We have fellowship with Him," and walk in darkness, we are lying and are not practicing the truth. But if we walk in the light as He Himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
